How do you control quality?

Quality is agreed before it is inspected.

Every order is inspected by a dedicated QA department, headed by Jagnath Kadam, our QA Head, against the AQL agreed for it, from the stitching line to the packed carton.

Leadership
  1. 01

    Agreed, not assumed

Nothing is inspected against a standard you have not seen: the approved sample and the measurement chart are the references for every check.

  2. 02

    Found where it is made

The earlier a check sits in production, the fewer garments a fault can reach, so inspection starts on the line rather than at the end of it.

  3. 03

    One standard for every line

The same checkpoints and the same agreed AQL apply whether a garment was stitched on an in-house line or at a partner unit.

  4. 04

    A dedicated department

Inspection is the QA department's job, not a task added to production's.

Six checks between the line and the carton.

Each check sits where the fault it looks for can still be put right. Read across: production runs left to right, and each mark is a point a garment must pass.

AQL · Acceptance quality limit

Agreed per programme.

AQL (acceptance quality limit) sampling inspects a set number of garments drawn at random from a finished lot, the number depending on the lot size, and accepts or rejects the whole lot on the defects found in that sample.

The inspection level and the acceptance limits are agreed with you for each programme before bulk starts, from your own quality manual where you have one, and every order is checked against them.

How a lot passes final random inspection

  1. 01

    The finished lot

The order, or the part of it that is ready to ship.
  2. 02

    A random sample

Garments drawn at random from the lot. How many depends on the lot size and the level agreed.
  3. 03

    Inspection

Each garment in the sample is checked against the approved sample and the specification.
  4. 04

    Defects graded

Each defect found is graded critical, major or minor.
  5. 05

    Release or hold

Within the agreed limits the lot is released; beyond them it is held.

How defects are graded

  1. Critical

A defect that makes the garment unsafe or unsaleable, such as a loose part on childrenswear or a sharp object left in the garment.

  2. Major

A defect likely to make a customer return the garment: an open seam, a wrong measurement, a visible stain or a shade difference between panels.

  3. Minor

A defect that does not affect use or sale, such as an untrimmed thread or slightly uneven stitching in a hidden area.

Which defects count as critical, major or minor, and how many of each a lot may carry, are set with you for each programme.

  1. 01 / 06Check

    Inline inspection

    During stitching, on the line.

    • Seam quality and stitch consistency
    • Seam allowances and puckering
    • Operation-level faults: skipped stitches, open seams, uneven topstitching
    • Placement of labels, trims and value-added panels

    On this frock

    • Point 01: Collar and placketCollar points equal, placket straight, buttons aligned to their buttonholes.

    Inline inspection: reference and outcome

    Against
The approved sample and the construction notes.
    Outcome
A fault is corrected at the operation that caused it, before it repeats across the bundle.
  2. 02 / 06Check

    Measurement audit

On garments from the line, and again on the finished lot.

    • Points of measure in every size: chest, waist, length, sleeve, hem
    • Symmetry left to right
    • Size-to-size grading

    On this frock

    • Point 02: ChestMeasured across, armhole to armhole, against the chart.
    • Point 03: LengthMeasured from the shoulder at the collar to the hem.

    Measurement audit: reference and outcome

    Against
The measurement chart and its tolerances.
    Outcome
A size running out of tolerance is traced to the pattern, the cut or the operation, and corrected before more are made.
  3. 03 / 06Check

    Fit check

At the start of bulk, and on samples drawn during production.

    • Balance, ease and length
    • Neckline and collar set
    • Sleeve and armhole set
    • How the hem falls

    On this frock

    • Point 04: Shoulder and sleeveSleeves set evenly on both sides; shoulders balanced.

    Fit check: reference and outcome

    Against
    The approved fit sample.
    Outcome
Bulk fit is confirmed to match the sample you approved, not just the numbers on the chart.
  4. 04 / 06Check

    End-line inspection

Finished garments at the end of the line, before pressing and packing.

    • Whole-garment appearance, inside and out
    • Stains, shade differences between panels, fabric faults
    • Loose threads, open seams, button and closure security
    • Labels and trims as specified

    On this frock

    • Point 05: Waist seam and tieGathers even, seam straight, tie secured, threads trimmed.
    • Point 06: Check matchingChecks run true across the placket and meet at the waist seam.

    Outcome
Faulty pieces go back for repair before they reach finishing.
  5. 05 / 06Check

    Final random inspection

On the finished, packed or ready lot, before dispatch.

    • A random sample drawn from the lot, sized by the agreed AQL
    • Workmanship, measurements and appearance
    • Packing, labels and carton marks on the cartons drawn

    On this frock

    • Point 07: BadgeBadge in the approved position and securely attached.
    • Point 08: HemHem level and even in width, no skipped stitches.

Final random inspection: reference and outcome

    Against
The AQL agreed for the programme.
    Outcome
The lot is released for dispatch, or held, reworked and re-inspected.
  6. 06 / 06Check

    Packing check

As cartons are packed, before they close.

    • Piece counts and size ratios per carton
    • Folding, tags, hangtags and bags
    • Carton marks and labels
    • Agreement with the packing list

    Packing check: reference and outcome

    Against
Your packing specification and the packing list.
    Outcome
Cartons close only when the count, the ratio and the marks agree with the packing list.
